A good prime lens provides better light acquiring than a rapid zoom lens, something you have to consider for low light.

The aperture is an extremely important feature for a camera and something you will probably wish to consider as well. Aperture is the measure in which the lens opens up or closes at to allow in more or less light. They are listed as f-numbers to characterize how well they gather light. The lower the f-number the larger the aperture, and the faster they are.

This can be quite confusing, when the f-number is higher the aperture size is smaller, the required shutter speed is slower and the depth of field is wider. Conversely when the f-number is lower the aperture size is larger, the required shutter speed is faster and the depth of field is narrower.
