Browsing For A Terrific Movie? Check Out These Fantastic Movie Reviews
Never before has it been so good to be a movie fan. Back in the day the only way that you could even view a film was to visit the theater. Later on, videos came out and you could get a videotape at the store but the film that you wanted may have been out-of-stock and you still had to wait. You also needed to make sure that you avoided any late fees by making sure that you got the film back to the store on time. Now you can get the movies by mail, but it is still a waiting game.
The Indian in the Cupboard - A boy (Scardino) acquires an ancient chest as a birthday present, and finds out that when he sets a toy Indian inside and turns the key, the Indian comes to life. Then he sees that the Indian is not a toy, but a genuine individual. Complications follow, particularly while his best friend summons to life a toy cowboy. Cast includes Hal Scardino, Lindsay Crouse, Richard Jenkins, Rishi Bhat, and Nestor Serrano. (96 minutes,’95)
Mysterious Lady - An Austrian armed forces officer (Nagel) falls in love with Garbo, naive that she’s a Russian agent. Another contrived plot made serviceable by Garbo herself. Cast includes Greta Garbo, Conrad Nagel, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Albert Pollet, and Edward Connelly. (96 minutes,’28)
The Prince and the Showgirl - Fairly decent but slow moving comedy of saucy American show gal Monroe being courted by Prince Regent of Carpathia (Olivier) throughout the’11 coronation of George V. Filmed in England, with marvelous performances by Monroe and Olivier. Cast includes Marilyn Monroe, Laurence Olivier, Sybil Thorndike, Jeremy Spencer, and Richard Wattis. (117 minutes,’57)
Say It Isn’t So - Congenially un-ambitious Klein falls for the new hairdresser in town Graham. They have consensual sex and then Klein discovers that Graham is his sister. It is a full-blown flop. Cast includes Heather Graham, Chris Klein, Orlando Jones, Sally Field, Richard Jenkins, John Rothman, Brent Briscoe, and Sarah Silverman. (96 minutes,’88)
Believe in Me - Donovan moves to a tiny Oklahoma town in’64 to take a teaching job, although when he arrives he discovers he has been assigned to coach the girls basketball team. What is more, the girls have no self respect and little assistance from the school. Genuine heartland account ascends above its familiar underdog formula. Donovan and Mathis as his loyal spouse are first rate. Cast includes Jeffrey Donovan, Samantha Mathis, Bruce Dem, Bob Gunton, Heather Matarazzo, Alicia Lagano, and Chris Ellis. (108 minutes, 2007)
Basic - While things go awry throughout an armed forces work out, base captain Daly brings in Travolta, the best interrogator he ever had, to query the surviving members of the squad, whose tales don’t add up. In fact a whodunit, this film keeps us guessing, as a good conspiracy should. Cast includes John Travolta, Connie Nielsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Giovanni Ribisi, Tim Daly, Roselyn Sanchez, and Harry Connick. (2003 minutes,’95)
